Body found in burning skip outside Manchester Apollo music venue hours after The Saturdays gig

Firefighters discovered the body after being called to put out the blaze at 5am this morning. A body has been found in a burning skip near a major Manchester music venue - hours after a show by pop stars The Saturdays. Firefighters were called to the scene outside the Manchester Apollo on the A57 Hyde Road around 5am today. Fire crews tackled a blazing skip wagon, but after putting out the flames discovered a body inside the skip, the Manchester Evening News reports. Police were called and the A57 Hyde Road has been closed in both directions between the A665 Devonshire Street North and the A6 Stockport Road, Brunswick Street and Higher Ardwick.

Manchester Fire Service is asking people to avoid the area as police and firefighters begin investigating, and the road is expected to remain closed until later day. It is not yet know if the body found was that of a man or a woman. The O2 Manchester Apollo is a major music venue in the city hosting chart-topping acts throughout the year. The Saturdays performed there last night, with gigs over the next month including Alt-J, The 1975, Lauryn Hill, and The Vamps.
