Good Morning Nigerians : Osu Caste A Moral-Debasing- Monster- With Magnus Hyacinth On Episode II

Osu caste-system in Igboland is synonymous with the Untouchables in India

In my previous episode of Good Morning Nigerians, I brought to the fore this hydra-headed monster, known as Osu Caste 'Out Cast' for discourse, because it has stigmatized the very halos of certain segments of humanity. Get on board, and let us get this evil fizzled out of the human terrain permanently.  The Osu Caste - that is totally unethical, morally wrong and discriminatory has lingered over time, probably over a century or thereabout within the Igbo race.

Going by history, the Igbo race are perceived as people with a very unique religious background even before the dawn of Christianity- which was brought by the White Missionaries via the scaffold of Colonialism. This Igbo race also displayed as well as paraded the greatest number of followers to this new religion called Christianity that found its way into the Nigerian soil.

If "Religion" can be envisaged as the submission to, and worship of the Supreme divinity-which is higher than humanity; then I also presume that religion must have been established on moral values which should defy every act of evil such as this issue of  discourse called "OSU CASTE".

Nevertheless, if we plead ignorance of this injustice of discrimination owing to the shallow manner at which we conceive religion at the Pre-colonial era, what can we say about our immoral attitudes and behaviours in these times of Post-colonialism- that we have embraced Christianity through the good stewardship of the White Missionary Colonialists?

Through Christianity that was borne-out of Civilization, we were thought that every individual is created in the image and likeness of God; therefore it then confers on us the absolute authority to be free and never be held siege by any form of force, being it natural or artificial. This then enables us to realize that no person created by God can be called a "Slave' because  by virtue of God's creation every person is a free-born, that is a bonafide child in his environment of existence.

Hence, I ask this perturbing question; why are my people still on the macabre roulette of injustice, evil and moral-debasing-monster called "OSU CASTE"?

I shall continue with this in the next episode of Good morning Nigerians, just stay in touch, together we will get there ...

  1. I got you on this one, Master... There ain't nothing like that, because I've never seen such before, so why would some people over there in Africa act against some other as outcast? To me best of knowledge, it doesn't exist period

  3. It seems this Out cast issue is another slavery in disguise, what part of the world are these people living in? Don't they know that every human being is created equal? I feel sad whenever I come across people standing on others no matter it, is wrong. It's like Africans are good with racial discrimination, even when they all posses almost same color? Terrible.

  4. I must quickly react to this, because I've been around where people talk about the so called Osu Caste in one of the Igboland state, and to be honest, it's a really very bad. Like the men can date the so called Osu caste women, but when they want to get married, they will leave them for other women who are known to be free-born. It's really bringing a lot discrimination around there and it's is very humiliating, the way these people are made to feel within the society.

I just wish that this whole thing can be quashed so these people can have a sense of belonging in the society where they are living

  5. It hurts that people claim to Christians yet they don't understand what it entails in Christianity. Some people are just nothing but baptized pagans. Calling one outcast is discriminatory to the highest order and should be punishable by law.

  7. The topics you are bringing on this good morning Nigerians are very much of a touching and needs the total diagnosis, you are doing great. This one is another bomb, which must be addressed, because I'm an Igbo and I know the danger this evil of Osu out cast is posing to the lives of people. It has really created an atmosphere of intrigue and fear , that one can't marry or associate freely with others, it's very appalling.

  8. Africans and their act of holding on to archaic traditions, this is one those evil things they're known for, it's sad that this is going on there, even after the civilization that African have known this day? It hurts sincerely, I can just feel the pains of the people being the victims of this circumstance. Well, I'll continue to pray that someday, this will end.

    1. Monique, you have no idea how much what you wrote here is encouraging to me. I have recently found out that I am considered Osu, and also that I can not marry the man I was growing to love and who loves me. This backward mindet of free born and osu, actually has real costs to real people and for no real reason. It is not encouraging at all to realise that I am now considered an outcast among my own people and if they should find out may well reject me.

  9. You will live long for having noticed this evil, most young guys of our Ibo race don't seem to realize that this discrimination against these people is very bad, they see the same with their parents or guardians, forgetting that with exposure and education, we can influence our parents, so they will realize certain things they is wrong, just as this Osu case...
