Pauline Quirke piles on the pounds again after dramatic crash diet weight loss

The Birds of a Feather star lost an astonishing eight stone in 2011 on weight-loss plan LighterLife but keeping weight off is harder. TV star Pauline Quirke looks to be piling back on the weight she battled so hard to lose. As the Birds of a Feather star popped into a petrol station this week it seemed like she has become the latest victim of an extreme diet backlash. Pauline, 55, lost an astonishing eight stone in 2011 on weight-loss plan LighterLife. The diet consists of eating virtually nothing and involves replacing normal meals with very low-calorie shakes and soups. But as every successful dieter knows, it’s not just about shedding the weight, it’s about keeping it off.

TV weight-loss expert Steve Miller said: “Restricted diets are doomed from the start. People get bored and end up having a major blow out. “They do not address long-term lifestyle change, and it’s really common for people to get fat again.” The Fat Families host added: “To keep the weight off, people need to live 80-20 – eating 80 per cent healthily and 20 per cent a bit of what you fancy.” The LighterLife regime helped Pauline – who returned to our TV screens in January alongside Linda Robson and Lesley Joseph – slim down from a size 28 to a size 12-14 in just one year. But like many other followers of extreme diets, it seems that the weight she lost has crept back on since she started trying to eat normally. But Pauline’s still in great shape compared to the self-confessed “fat” actress she used to be. She once admitted that she’d got so big she couldn’t fit a standard aeroplane seat-belt around her middle.

Mum-of-two Pauline, who at her biggest weighed 20 stone, has been the face of LighterLife since 2011, but said she was nervous about what would happen once she came off the strict regime.
