Wedding photo lost in 9/11 tragedy reunited with owner 13 YEARS later

University professor Elizabeth Stringer Keefe discovered the snap at Ground Zero but thought she would never find its owner - until now. Among the devastation of the 9/11 tragedy, Irish university professor Elizabeth Stringer Keefe found an image of hope. A wedding photo of a happy couple and their friends lay among the smouldering rubble of the Twin Towers.
As a gesture of goodwill, she resolved to try and reunite the picture with either its owner or a relative.

Her appeals in the immediate aftermath were unsuccessful, but every year, on the anniversary of the terrorist attacks, she would make another attempt, posting the picture on social media and asking others to share it. And finally, after a remarkable 13 years, her persistence has paid off. Thanks to the power of social media, her appeal was more widely shared than ever before. A man named Fred Mahe responded to Ms Keefe after the image went viral - to tell her that he was in fact in the picture and that all six people photographed were alive and well.

  1. This is a great miracle, I must say. Thanks to you Prof. Elizabeth, for having the faith that someday the owners or even relatives may find it. Luckily, all those in that photo were all alive. Fred from Mountain View, California
