Nigerian nation certified of Ebola Virus Free By WHO
What seemed to be a horrific and tragic omen to the World at
large, which also got many if not every Nigerian hysterical as at the time it
got into the country through a Liberian diplomat named as “Patrick Sawyer” was confirmed
and certified free yesterday just about 93-days after its ugly head reared
high in the Nigerian milieu of existence. Nigerians wouldn't have said to be
luckier than their counterpart countries within the West African region who
have been hit by the Ebola Virus disease so badly, even until date, the
Liberian and Sierra leone have been battling with this disease, with an increase
in the number of casualties. It has been confirmed by the WHO that so far over
4,000 person have died through this Ebola, and about 2,000 such deaths occur in
Liberia. This is quite sad to note.
But here Nigeria pulled a giant stride in the fight against
this deadly epidemic of EVD, following its importation to the Nigerian nation
by a Liberian, “Patrick Sawyer” who later died few days after, causing the
spread of this disease to the few persons who came in contact with him both in
the airplane that brought him to Nigeria as well as the hospital where he was
confirmed to have an Ebola infection. It
was as a result of this that no fewer than 8 persons died in Nigeria out of the
possible 19-cases reported, with 11-persons surviving from the time of the
Ebola outbreak till this time.
By confirming no further incident of Ebola case in Nigeria
after 93 days, the World Health Organization [WHO] then deemed it fit to certify
Nigerian nation ‘free’ from this deadly
virus.
Every Nigerian can’t stop expressing their gratitude to God
Almighty for having strengthened the Health Ministry, through the dogged effort
of the Health Minister, Professor Oyebuchi Chukwu, the media for their
continuous enlightenment programs which majorly assisted Nigerians to get acquainted with the measures to apply so as to avoid getting infected with this
disease.
No more Ebola in Nigeria
The President, Association of General Private Medical
Practitioners of Nigeria, AGPMPN, Dr. Anthony Omolola in his reaction speech
over the WHO certification of Nigeria as Ebola free nation, said it was
welcome.
Furthermore; “WHO declaration is a welcome development for
our country and it shows that when we are committed to doing anything we can do
it well. Our effort in curtaining Ebola has remain a sample to the world. We
need to commend all the health workers, the government in the manner in which
the situation was reacted to and also the media need to be commended for their
enlightenment role and dissemination of information at appropriate time.
“As the WHO is declaring us free, we should not forget those
that had sacrificed their lives in ensuring that the country did not experience
greater calamity,” he pointed out.
