Somizi Speaks Out About HIV Rumours

Choreographer and socialist Somizi Mhlongo has straightened things out about how he was declared dead on social networks. In an exclusive interview with Nicky Greenwall for her celebrity chat show The Close Up, Somizi revealed how Facebook went wild after someone wrote ‘rest in peace’ on his page. “I got sick and it was said that I am dying, and somebody posted something on Facebook saying “rest in peace” and nasty things, the media went wild. They just went crazy,” he told Greenwall. Somizi also explained how the media started asking questions like: “Is Somizi HIV positive?” and continued to say that it all went “crazy” from there. It has been over two years since these rumours about him being HIV positive were spread all over social networks, but talking about the event still gets to him.

Somizi, who is known for challenging gay stereotypes, at times dresses as a drag queen called Somgaga and has been on South African screens since his teen years. For those who may not be in the know Somizi is also the son of of big screen icons Mary Twala and the late Ndaba Mhlongo, and rose to fame after making his film debut in historical production Sarafina! when he was 13, we could sworn he looked a bit older in that movie. Congrats you are cool Somzi. What do you say in this?
