It was reported that about 54 persons from the Republic of SA were among the dead victims in that tragedy.

In that meeting, that constituted delegates from the Presidency of South African Ministry, such as Mr Jeffrey Radebe, Governor Fashola stated that from the DNA test carried on the 70 bodies that were taken from the 116 bodies found in the scene of the incident, that it was 54 bodies that were confirmed as being of South African descent.

He therefore apologized to the South Africa's officials for they delay displayed in releasing the dead bodies to them, and stated that it was to ensure that there was no mistakes in  giving the right bodies to the families that were affected by this ugly incident.
