RATTAWU begins 3-day warning strike
Just yesterday being wednesday, the 17th December, 2014, the Radio, Television, Theatre and Arts Workers’ Union (RATTAWU), together with the Nigerian Union of Journalist (NUJ) began a 3-day warning strike, which was aimed at calling the attention of the Federal Government to heed to their demands of establishing a better structure for broadcasting to thrive.
The meeting between the Supervising Minister of Information and RATTAWU ended in deadlocks yesterday, as they never agreed to shift grounds, even after the Minister's plea for them to call off strike, while their requests shall be given quick resolve.
But RATTAWU stated they cannot call off the strike, unless a mutual agreement is reached between them the Federal Government as regards to implementing their staff benefits and also ensuring their entitlements is paid in full and as at when due. They also maintained that it's time the country began digital broadcasting.
According to the General secretary, Comrade Henry Odugala, who said that the broadcasting sector requires a digital outlook and it is very glaring that the government owned broadcasting outfits does not possess such, and that unless the government is willing to yield to their demands on building a structure that would enable the digitalization of broadcasting to set in, else, they will not call off the strike.
