United States Coast Guard Gallatin Warship given to Nigeria
Just yesterday the 2nd day of January, 2015, the United States government made a donation of a Warship to Nigerian government.
This Warship which is termed as United States Coast Guard Gallatin, USCGG, is said to cost a whooping sum of $8 million (about N1.34 billion), and the purpose of this ship is to enable the Nigeria Navy to facilitate its effort in combating the crude oil theft, known as bunkering , insecurity and piracy along the Nigerian coastal lines and around the Gulf of Guinea as well.
According to source, this Warship came into the Nigerian waters yesterday at about 11 am and it was embraced with warm reception from the Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Usman Jubrin and several other top governmental officials. As at the time of this report, the name of the ship has been changed into "NNS Okpabana" by the Nigerian Navy.
It is very true that the US government has assisted Nigeria on several occasions to fight crime and to also ensure good governance within the nation, and this has shown that there is a cordial inter-national relationship between the two countries and it is hoped that this will continue.
