Sequel to the statement made by the All Progressive Congress (APC) Presidential Candidate, Muhammadu Buhari to Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC that his original certificates were with the Military Service Secretariat.
Well, the Nigerian Army has claimed that it does not keep the original certificates of any soldier, whether the person is still in service or has retired as such is a property of that person.
According to Vanguard News, the Nigeria's military source stated as thus, “The original certificate of any officer or soldier is only needed at the point of entry into the service either as a cadet officer entering the Nigerian Defence Academy, or the recruitment officers when interviewing recruits to be sent to the depot for training. That is so, because they are needed to verify what were in the photocopies supplied by them or from the necessary examining bodies.”
But Buhari submitted a sworn affidavit from the Federal High to INEC in place of his academic credentials which he said was still with the Military Service. Since one of the criterias to contest for such a revered political position in the country requires academic credentials, then it is now left to INEC the FG, the National Assembly, and the Judiciary to state whether it is permissible for him to run for such post without the credentials or not, because at this juncture, Nigerians are watching to know what the outcome will be.
