Wow! Do you know that Alfa Romeo left the United States market in 1995, after a year in which the Italian company sold only 523 cars. For comparison, Ford sells three times that many F-Series trucks every day. Alfa simply couldn’t justify the huge investment needed to comply with ever-tighter American safety and emission standards. Leaving with a whimper, Alfa has returned with a bang. During my three days with its new 4C sports car, well over 100 gawkers interrupted my photo shoots more, I believe, than with any car I’ve tested. At least one driver nearly ran off the road trying to catch a second glimpse.

EBay said on Tuesday that it would spin off its PayPal payments unit into a separate publicly traded company, taking a step the activist hedge fund magnate Carl C. Icahn first demanded nine months ago. The move will cleave eBay almost in half, separating it from the payments processor it acquired 12 years ago and built into a giant that generates almost half of the company’s revenue. The spinoff is expected to be completed in the second half of 2015. John Donahoe, eBay’s current chief executive, will step down from that role once the separation is complete.

The man who designed the Nigeria flag, Pa Taiwo Akinkunmi was decorated as an Officer of the Order of the Federal Republic, OFR, by President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan "GEJ" yesterday being the September 29th, exactly 55 years after designing the flag.

Hillary Clinton Gets A+ For New Program To Get 14 Million Girls In School

Hillary Rodham Clinton announced a $600 million effort Wednesday to enroll girls in secondary schools around the globe, aiming to address security and access problems in the developing world. The former secretary of state unveiled the plan at the Clinton Global Initiative to help 14 million girls typically between the ages of 11 and 16 to attend school. The initiative, carried out via her family's foundation, aims to improve the quality, safety and security at schools around the world.

"We know when girls have equal access to quality education in both primary and secondary schools, cycles of poverty are broken, economies grow, glass ceilings crack and potential is unleashed," Clinton said.

Graça Machel, Nelson Mandela's widow, took to the stage at Clinton Global Initiative to speak out on behalf of women and girls worldwide. Machel, who is the founder of the Graca Machel Trust, sat down with Hillary Clinton Wednesday in New York to discuss crucial issues affecting Africa and its future. And while there are several, Machel said she has chosen to focus on one with far-reaching implications starting at birth: child marriage.

"We opted on child marriage because it brings the fundamental issue of, within the family, how they have to value a girl the same way they value a boy," Machel said in the video above, starting at the 12:30 mark. She added that child marriage is also an issue related to sexual health, as marrying and having children at a young age puts girls at risk for serious medical conditions.

"No one -- a child of 10, 12 or 14 -- her body will be ready for marriage," she told Clinton.

In the 11 years since Jane Piper was beaten and raped in the back seat of her car, she's been mulling over some choice words for her assailant. On Tuesday, in a Los Angeles courthouse, she finally got to share them with the perpetrator, emphasizing her statement with three remarkable words in particular: "I forgive you." Two people accused of murdering two Illinois men, then having sex on top of the bodies were unable to orgasm during the corpse-side intercourse, according to a newly released police interview. Alisa Massaro and Joshua Miner were accused in the strangulation deaths of Eric Glover and Terrence Rankins, both 22, in Joliet, Illinois, back in January. Two others, Adam Landerman and Bethany McKee, were also accused in the murder. Police said Glover and Rankins were lured to Massaro’s apartment, where they were robbed and strangled to death. Police also said Miner, 24, asked the 18-year-old Massaro to have sex with him atop the freshly deceased bodies.

A Massachusetts man who has bumps resembling horns implanted in his forehead maintained his innocence before a judge sentenced him Monday to three consecutive life terms in the killings of three men who were kidnapped, shot and dismembered in 2011.

"Let me make this clear, my hand wasn't in this," Caius Veiovis, 34, of Pittsfield, said in a statement he read at his sentencing hearing in Hampden Superior Court.

Tour: Ex-UB40 frontman Ali Campbell

Reggae band UB40 have started legal action against former singer Ali Campbell over his use of their name. The furious five-some includes Campbell’s own brothers Robin and Duncan - who have accused him of “hoodwinking” fans. They claim the rival trio have no right to the title - and say having another band using the name is hitting their business financially. Writs have been served on Campbell and pianist Mickey Virtue, who both left the band in 2008, and vocalist Terence “Astro” Wilson, who quit last November.

The ‘2B40’ row is now heading for legal showdown in the High Court - with the Campbell brothers giving evidence against each other in a bitter family clash. Guitarist and vocalist Robin Campbell said: “Ali is selling tickets as UB40 when he isn’t. He’s taken our name because he can’t sell tickets on his own.“They are perfectly entitled to play any UB40 tracks they like. What they are not entitled to do is to pretend they are UB40. "Fans are being hoodwinked.”

Pregnancy: Greer says Kate should stop at two children

Controversial feminist Germaine Greer says Kate Middleton is 'too thin' and shouldn't have any more children. In an extraordinary attack on the Royal Family she said Kate, 32, had a “b*****d of a job” because she had been “put in charge of William.” Greer said Kate, who is pregnant with her second child, is “not allowed to have an interest in modern culture”. Quoted in Newsweek the 75 year-old Australian author of bestseller, The Female Eunuch, described the Royal Family as a "mad anachronism."She added that Kate is a great deal more intelligent than the rest of the royals.

Motor show: The monster truck was taking part in a motor display
Two people have been killed after a monster truck with tractor-sized wheels ploughed into the crowd at a Dutch car show, with fears that the death toll could rise further. Eighteen people were also injured in the disaster in the eastern city of Haaksbergen, with six seriously hurt, and the driver of the monster truck has reportedly been arrested. Earlier reports said two adults and a child had been killed, but this number was later revised down to two. The ages of those who lost their lives has not yet been confirmed. Footage of the incident shows a monster truck driving over five parked cars as part of a demonstration, before veering into the watching crowd.

Isolated: Michael Adebolajo

One of Lee Rigby’s killers has been moved to another maximum security jail amid fears he was radicalising inmates, a Muslim group says. Michael Adebolajo was taken from Belmarsh in South East London to Frankland, Co Durham, and is being kept apart in an isolation unit.

Disgrace: Kieran Conry has resigned as a bishop

A Catholic bishop has resigned from his post, claiming to have brought "shame" on his diocese and the church. The Rt Rev Kieran Conry, who is Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Arundel and Brighton, covering Surrey and Sussex, issued a statement today which said he had "been unfaithful to his promises as a Catholic priest". The statement, which will be read in all churches of the diocese this weekend, said: "I am sorry to confess that, going back some years, I have been unfaithful to my promises as a Catholic priest.

"I would like to reassure you that my actions were not illegal and did not involve minors. "As a result, however, I have decided to offer my resignation as bishop with immediate effect and will now take some time to consider my future. "I want to apologise first of all to the individuals hurt by my actions and then to all of those inside and outside the diocese who will be shocked, hurt and saddened to hear this. "I am sorry for the shame that I have brought on the diocese and the Church and I ask for your prayers and forgiveness." Mr Conry, 63, was accused of writing a love letter to the parishioner during an affair six years ago. He is also understood to have become close to the married mother after her marriage hit a crisis last year. Earlier this year he denied having a sexual relationship with her but admitted she had twice stayed at his home in Pease Pottage, West Sussex.

Fall: The ambulance should have arrived for Barbara within 90 minutes
A retired nurse, 90, was left lying in agony with a shattered pelvis as she waited SIX hours for an ambulance to arrive. Barbara Hedley, who lives alone, was found face down at her home in terrible pain by neighbour Gina Mackenzie. An ambulance should have arrived for Mrs Hedley, who is a widow, within 90 minutes of the call following her fall at 5.45pm on August 29. But it didn't get there until after midnight. Mrs Hedley, of Beeston Regis, near Sheringham, north Norfolk, said: "I took a very dim view of all this having been in the trade for many years and to be treated like I wished I was dead. "I don't think you would have treated a dog like that."

Barbara, a former ward sister at Mundesley Hospital, Norfolk, added: "I have never suffered so much pain in my life. "I will never forget it." Mrs Mackenzie, 68, dashed to help the stricken pensioner after she pressed an emergency help-line button. But it was more than two hours before a paramedic arrived and more than six before Mrs Hedley was finally taken to hospital.

An abduction investigation has been launched after a man chased terrified children 'with a large sack'. But despite family of the victims reporting the terrifying incident it took police nearly a week to carry out a proper investigation, the Manchester Evening News reports. The granddad of one of five children approached by a man has branded the response ‘a disgrace’. In the shocking incident two men in a van pulled alongside a grassy area off Wembley Road, Gorton.
One got out brandishing a large bag or sack and chased a group of five young children playing there. The petrified children fled and hid behind bins nearby.

As the man was still walking towards them a woman came out of a house and the man crouched behind bushes. The van then drove to where he was and he was driven away.
The mother of one of the children called police on the non-emergency 101 number shortly afterwards. But the grandfather of an eight-year-old girl, who was in the group, said the incident - on Monday, September 8 - was not investigated fully until the Friday. Police have confirmed to the MEN its response is now 'under review'. The granddad said:“The children were in a state of shock and terrified. After the mother of one called 101 police contacted her within 24 hours and she gave them the addresses and names of the others.

Concerns: The woman said she once drank a bottle of wine a day

A grandmother has been ordered to have a liver test before being allowed to care for grandson. The pensioner's alcohol consumption might affect her capacity to look after the toddler, who is currently in temporary foster care, a judge has ruled. Judge Clifford Bellamy said it was clear the pensioner, who is in her sixties and a former teacher - is able to meet her grandson's day-to-day physical and emotional needs. But he said there was a risk that her "alcohol consumption" might affect her "capacity" to look after the little boy.

And he said he needed to be satisfied by "appropriate tests and expert opinion" that she was no longer misusing alcohol before allowing the youngster to move in. He said the woman would have to undergo a liver function test. Judge Bellamy had concluded that the little boy could not be cared for by his mother or father - who both had histories of mental health issues. The judge said the options were allowing the youngster to live with the grandmother or placing him for adoption. Details of the case have emerged in a written ruling by Judge Bellamy following a family court hearing in Leicester. He said the little boy could not be identified. But he said the local authority which had asked for rulings relating to the youngster's future was Leicestershire County Council.

Sex scandal Tory MP Brooks Newmark today admitted he had been "a complete fool" for sending an X-rated picture of himself to an undercover reporter. He told the BBC: "I have no-one to blame but myself. I have hurt those I care about most." He added: "I am so, so sorry. But I just need time with my family". Newmark swapped X-rated images and asked to meet the reporter, who was posing as a young Tory PR girl called Sophie while investigating the alleged inappropriate use of social media by MPs. He initiated a private message conversation online and, during flirtatious chats and photo exchanges, sent a graphic snap exposing himself while wearing a pair of paisley pyjamas.

A disabled child had to sleep in a dog cage because a council refused to provide a special bed, it has been claimed. Sadie Fenton Hunt, 10, has a rare form of epilepsy and can’t be allowed out of bed at night in case she hurts herself. Her mum Effie used a dog cage to keep her safe after the local authority said they would not supply the special padded cot she needs, the Daily Record reports.

Effie said: “The dog pen was basically a metal cage with mesh panels which you link together. It was horrible to see my daughter in a dog cage but we didn’t have any choice.
“Social services said they didn’t think it was safe. But what was the alternative?” Sadie, who can’t speak or communicate, was given a customised bed by her local authority while the family were living in Northumberland. When they moved to Chesser in Edinburgh to be nearer Effie’s mum in January, the city council said they would provide a special chair and bath for Sadie – but not a bed.

And Jane claims that not having anything to do all day when her friends are at work can be boring.
