The Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN) has embarked on a nationwide strike yesterday being Monday, the 15th December, 2014, over what they claim as negligence by the Federal government towards restoring of the four refineries that seem to be moribund over the years, and as a result has continued to inflate the cost of oil price frequently in the country.
It was gathered that this PENGASSAN, as a union have threatened that it will not resolve its decision, unless the demands set is met by the Federal government. According to the Media and Information officer of PENGASSAN, Babatunde Oke, he affirmed that the oil pump price should be reduced in line with the fall of crude oil as witnessed in the world market. He also stated that the strike shall impinge on the operations of the upstream, the midstream as well as the downstream sectors.
The Federal Government should rise up to this challenges to ensure that the Union's demands is met to avoid any impending doom on the nation's economy which is already at the cringe due to the nose-dive of the world oil price.
