Bird Flu Ravages Poultry Farms In Lagos And Kano States, Kills Thousands Of Chickens

Chickens in danger of bird flu

It is so sad that about 11 poultry have been ravaged by bird flu leading to the loss of about 2,500 chickens in Lagos and Kano States lately, according to the report of the Poultry Association of Nigeria, PAN.

It also states that due to this current epidemic, some poultry in some other suspected states are being placed under close surveillance to curb any possible spread of this disease further.

This situation has then led the Federal government through the Ministry of Agriculture to show concern and willingness to assist the farmers to cushion the effects of this great loss, said President, PAN, Dr. Ayoola Oduntan, and also stated that this disease outbreak is not unexpected, since this kind of H5 strain avian influenza virus which bird harbor sometimes can be spread so fast through the migration of birds.

Therefore, it is not amazing that this will occur, but the Ministry of Agriculture is doing everything possible to compensate those whose farms were affected, and also ensure that this does not spread  any more.
