The Speaker Imo House Of Assembly Harps On Sustenance Of Cultural Values At Mbomuzo Ihitte Uboma


Sustenance of good cultural values have been identified as one of the strongest unifying factors for a peaceful and prosperous community. The Speaker, Imo State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Uwajumogu, made this assertion in an interview during the Mbomuzo festive celebration, which is an annual event to mark the new yam festival of the Ihitte-Uboma people.
Acknowledging cheers from friends, well-wishers traditional rulers, political associates and party supporters, who thronged his Umuihi country home to celebrate with him, Rt. Hon. Uwajumogu, maintained that for any community desirous of peace and development, sustenance of the good cultural values left behind by their fathers must remain premium in its agenda, as such was a major avenue to showcase and re-ignite brotherly love.

He lamented the sharp decline of cultural values among the young people, whom he said were daily embracing modernization against the cultures of their different communities, pointing out that such attitude has greatly exposed the youths to behaviors which run in contravention to our age-long cultural values. The Speaker also used the forum to call on Traditional Rulers, as well as relevant stakeholders in our communities to be in the vanguard towards helping to resuscitate our cultures, while re-orientating our youths to fully embrace the cultures of their communities, as such was a strong distinguishing factor which clearly identifies a particular community or group of people from another.

He thanked Traditional Rulers in Ihitte Ubuoma, for being worthy custodians of cultures of the people in their areas and stressed that their stance towards the sustenance of the cultural values of their communities has ensured peaceful co-existence among the people. On his achievements as the member representing the area at the state House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Uwajumogu maintained that the Ihitte Uboma Council area and indeed, Okigwe zone have witnessed an unprecedented round of transformation, which according to him, were in a sorry state prior to the advent of the present administration in the state.

He enumerated some of the feats recorded so far to include, the construction and asphalting of rural roads to encourage the transportation agricultural produce to the urban centers, electricity projects, empowerment of rural women and youths into meaningful ventures and the urbanization and beautification of Okigwe town. Others are the construction of two-detached storey building class room block in each of the electoral wards in the area, resuscitation of Avutu Poultry farm, the construction of Obowo international modern market, the attraction of three tertiary institutions namely: Imo State College of Education (Technical) Ihitte-Ubuoma, A campus of the Imo State in Onuimo, 100 beds General Hospital in each of the local government areas among others.

The Speaker further thanked people of the area for their encouragement and support to the performance of the present administration in the state, while urging them to sustain the tempo, as the zone has been earmarked to receive federal government attention immediately he assumes office as senator.
