City slickers: Brits Ditching Beach Holidays In Favour of City Breaks!

City swiggers: Prague is popular for stag and hen dos

Brits are throwing in the towel on fly-and-flop beach holidays and turning into city slickers. Some 42% of us opted for city breaks of up to three nights in the last 12 months, up from 41% in 2013. But the number of beach holidays has slipped over the year from 41% to 38%, according to research released at travel organisation Abta’s annual convention in Ljubljana, Slovenia

Young people are the biggest fans of city breaks, with 50% of 25 to 34-year-olds heading for the bright lights last year.
Many were on stag and hen parties, with Prague, Riga, Barcelona and Dublin the top choices. An Abta spokeswoman said younger holidaymakers found them especially affordable this year because of the stronger pound. Package holidays are also making a comeback with 51% who went abroad booking one, compared to 46% a year ago, and 37% in 2010.
