Tunisia Sworn In 88-Year Old Beji Caid Essebsi As First Democratically Elected President

It is on record that Tunisians have never for once had a freely elected President not until recently, when the country had its parliamentary elections which saw the Anti-Islamist Beji Caid Essebsi who is 88 years old clinch the victory and was today on Wednesday sworn in to be the leader of this Muslim dominated nation.


It was said that Beji Caid Essebsi victory is a landmark achievement for the entire people of Tunisia,since it's a step on the path of democracy which the nation has long sought after, and with the  dogged assistance of the Western world, this all important feat was realized.

Beji Caid Essebsi in his speech during the sworn in ceremony, “There is no future for Tunisia without consensus among political parties and members of civil society,” he said. “There is no future for Tunisia without national reconciliation.”he said.

Now, Essebsi has taken over from his predecessor and also his arch opponent in the just concluded Presidential elections,Moncef Marzouki, and to many people within the country, his emergence as the President of Tunisia is a new dawn towards realizing national unity.

According to source, Essebsi has held several key positions within the Tunisian government over the years, starting from their Independence from France in 1956, as he worked under the country's first President, Habib Bourguiba as his adviser, as well as other posts he held under the reign of former President, Ben Ali, whose administration was overthrown four years ago.

To the entire nation, Essesbi's victory as the President of Tunisia is history in the making and it will forever be immemorable to all that witnessed this turn out of events, because it has surely emancipated them from autocratic rule.
