Finance Minister Is Sued Against Refusal To Make Known Salaries Of Political Office Holders #NationalBudget

Ngozi Okonjo Iweala, Finance Minister

The Finance Minister and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Ngozi Okonjo Iweala has been sued by Centre for Social Justice, via its attorney Barrister Nnajiaka Kingsley for allegedly refusing to reveal the salaries and payments received from the national budget by political office holders just as the emoluments of its counterparts in the civil service is being made known to the citizenry.

The attorney has made a plea to the Federal High Court in Abuja to issue a court order which will impel the Minister to make public this information of salary benefits of the political office holders, since she has refused to give consent to this request made to her office since February 3rd, 2014, and never bothered to present any tangible excuse as to why this cannot be granted.

It was said that this action by the Ministers depicts nothing but a neglect and infringement of the applicant's right as assured and shielded by section 1(1) of the FOI Act, 2011.

To this end, the plaintiff, prayed the court of competent jurisdiction to use its powers to mandate the Minister to heed to this call and disclose this requested information soonest.
