Campaign Team Of The Rights2Know Carry Out March Protest In Seek Of Freedom Of Media In South Africa

Right2Know in march protest for freedom of the Media

Reports reaching to me now has it that members of the Rights2Know Campaign group have carried out a peaceful and commemorative march to the street of South Africa to seek for the freedom of the media.

This group was spotted gathered outside the main SABC buildings in the Auckland Park in Johannesburg last week in respect of their request.
It was said that i October 19, 1977, during the apatheid era, the South Africa banned a number of of black consciousness aligned newspapers and arrested prominent journalists.

Right2Know National Coordinator, Mark Wynberg, says they want equal access to information.

In the exact words of Wynberg, he says thus;

“We are taking action for the right to communicate. The South African democracy needs a media that serves the people. At the moment, the media is not doing a good job. We also want to have free access to our cell phones, because it’s through the cell phones that most people can get the information and communicate which is what we really need in our democracy,”

Freedom of the media is a welcome development, and it quite a noble request, therefore let the appropriate government authorities grant their request, because the media is the pivotal point of every democratic government, as long as they act in lines with the broadcasting policies.
