Why Would The 36-State Governors Oppose The LG Autonomy?

Nigerian governors forum "NGF" having a meeting in opposition to LG Autonomy

Well I've never seen a country where few persons of say 36 people would stand in the way to win in the fight against over 160 million people! This seems like a tale of the Tortoise wrestling all the animals in a fight that involves even the 'high and mighties' like Elephants, Lions and others.Funny Huh?  Oh yes it is indeed..

You may wonder why this is fielded in here, but it's no more a news anymore, that some Nigerian political leaders are truly glad that the Nigerian populace are languishing in poverty in midst of plenty over the years, and they claim to care, this is ridiculous, as well as amazing, that the Local Government autonomy that was amongst the few policies adopted into the Nigerian Constitutional Review by the duo of the House of Assembly few days ago  have been reported to be threatened by the 36-state governors in Nigeria.

The 36-state-governors in Nigeria have for sometime been at loggerheads with each other which led to them dividing into 2-factions, where one faction that is said to be Jonah Jang-led-PDP governors, and the other one is Rotimi Amaechi-led-APC governors. They haven't been together or even agreed to hold a meeting jointly , until after this LG Autonomy was granted by the NASS on Tuesday.

According to the telephone conversation by Governor Rotimi Amaechi from the  the Amaechi-led-APC governor's camp to Vanguard News; states that;

“The NGF does not support autonomy for local governments. The governors are against it, they have said it and still maintain that they will not support autonomy for local governments.
“There is no country in the world that there are three federating units; there are only two all over the world. Why should you say that there must be a third federating unit in Nigeria?”

Also, the statement from the Governor Jonah Jang-led-PDP governor's camp states thus;

“The push for local government autonomy by the National Assembly was hasty without first considering the problems of executive recklessness and ineffective administration at the local level.”
The governors thus warned that “the amendment will lead to the hijack of some local government administrative structures by a few powerful individuals without the oversight the state government currently provides.”
R-L; Governors Martins Elechi, Godswill Akapbio, Segun Mimiko; Deputy Governor Kogi, Yomi Awoniyi, Governors Jonah Jang, T Orji and Others after their meeting recently in Abuja

They seem to be maintaining some kind of synergy over this issue because it will be to their interest, but every Nigerian is very much glad about this LG autonomy and will stand by it to the latter, because the poor masses have suffered for too long over this and at a point it seems realization of it will as much as be interminable as life itself. But happily that it came at this time, and there is no one that can take it off.

  1. The will of the Nigerian populace will thrive against theirs, this is what we've been waiting for a long time, and they want to truncate the unanimous mandate of the people? No way, they won't succeed. LG autonomy will stay henceforth in Nigerian soil.

  5. Nigerians have seen that corruption is sitting with the state governors, and they claim to care and love us. This is very ugly to hear. I wish the National Assembly will resist them and do what they feel it's right, and that is to implement this in the constitution
