Nigeria's National Assembly "NASS" Finally Retains Immunity Clause For The President, Governors, And Implements Immunity For Legislators.

Nigerian National Assembly Committee Sitting At Abuja on Constitutional Review

Wow! events in the Nigerian political sphere has began taking a new turn yesterday, following the sitting by the Conference Committee of the National Assembly on Constitution Review after thorough and due consideration of the bills presented before its chambers, for which amongst them was the controversial issue on the Executive arm of government, which is the 'Immunity Clause' that was called upon to expunge by the House of Representatives, unfortunately, and fortunately alike, the committee cemented the immunity clause for the Presidency and also for the Governors, while as well incorporated the Legislature into the said immunity clause too.

The Committee also during the session adopted the move which confers on the National Assembly and the State Assemblies in Section 58 and 100 the power to override the President or the Governor in a case or situation of misconduct or impasse, especially where the President or the Governor of a state objects to give his/her assent on any law that is already passed.

They also stated that overriding the President or any governor that dissents to lending his/her approval to any law passed by the Federal or state Assembly after 30-days would sure strengthen the legislature's authority and as well ensure the timely passage of laws  and also engender good governance.

The Committee in their adoption yesterday also was the approval of Local Government autonomy, Independent Candidacy in election, and scrapping the State Independent Electoral Commissions and  the removal of wages from exclusive list.

If you can remember vividly, this is what I discussed in Good morning Nigerians of this topic; From The Corner Of The Author of Ymzonline Blog; "Magnus Hyacinth"; where I laid emphasis on the lacklustre attitude at which the NASS have displayed in the course of dispensing their constitutional rights, but I'm happy, its not up to 72 hours, and that issue was redressed, and here my assertion was adopted. I'm believing that this will be a new dawn for a a better democratic vista for Nigeria.
