Former Minister Of Health, Professor Onyebuchi Chukwu Is Sued For Corrupt Practices By CSNAC

Former health Minister, Prof. Onyebuchi Chukwu

The Former Health Minister, Professor Onyebuchi Chukwu, has been sued to the Economic and Crimes Commission (EFCC) by the Civil Society Network Against Corruption (CSNAC) in a document that was signed by its Chairman on the 24th November, 2014, stating that Global Alliance for Vaccines and Immunization (GAVI), which a geneva based company, had recently provided funds to the Nigerian government for them to procure vaccines, as well as to aid the development of the health sector, explicitly for the Nigerian children.

Upon the investigation carried out by the GAVI through its audit unit, C.P.A, on the manner the funds were utilized, it was shocking at the result which is quite an incriminating one that points to scam and misappropriation of funds by the Federal government through its Ministry of Health and National Primary Care Development Agency, and this was under the regimen of Prof. Onyebuchi Chukwu as the Minister of Health.

It was said that the Federal government of Nigeria accepted to return all the monies that were mismanaged which amounts to $2.2million, following the letter, it wrote to CSNAC which is titled ‘Letter of Understanding on the Principles Regarding the GAVI Cash Program Audit 2011-2013’, dated October 17, 2014 and was endorsed by the former Health Minister, Professor C.O. Onyebuchi Chukwu.

This body stated that due to this mismanagement of funds both recently and in the past, GAVI has then put to a stop any further disbursement of funds to the Nigerian government, as it has always been a beneficiary of monetary grants by the GAVI Cash Program since 2002, until this 2014, when this ugly report stemmed up.
